Greek and international media report that a fire on 6 April in a COVID ward of the Papanikolaou hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece, killed one patient and left two seriously injured. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear. There were no reports of any fire suppression system being present.

The day before, on Tuesday 5 April, a fire in the operating theatre complex at the Catherina hospital in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, was extinguished by the high pressure water mist installed some 10 years ago. Nobody was hurt and there was little damage. The system is not required by Dutch fire safety regulations but as is now common in The Netherlands, the hospital managers decided to fit it as part of their duty of care to their patients.
