Sprinkler System Extinguishes Dutch Fireworks Storage Fire
The fire brigade in Almere, The Netherlands, reports that it was called shortly after 10:00 on 20th December to a fire in a fireworks storage unit. The sprinkler system had operated. The fire brigade fed more water to the storage unit through the sprinkler system to prevent the 1,750kg of fireworks from exploding. Nobody was hurt.
Since the fireworks explosion which killed 23 people and destroyed a large part of the Dutch town of Enschede in 2000, all fireworks stores in The Netherlands must be protected with a sprinkler system.
