In 2014 700,036 sprinklers were sold in Norway, of which 145,501 were residential sprinklers. Norway uses sprinklers more intensively than any other country, with 138 sold for every 1,000 Norwegians. This is even more than in the USA. Since July 2010 the Norwegian fire safety building code has required sprinklers in almost all new buildings, with the exception of single-family houses and some small buildings in which people do not sleep. Many projects were already approved so it has taken several years for the full impact of the new code to be seen.
