Italian media report that a fire in a seven storey building undergoing renovation has led to the death of one person and severe injuries to three others. 100 people have been displaced with tents erected to accommodate them. The building is on Largo Nino Franchellucci in Colle Aniene in the east of Rome. The cause of the fire is not yet determined but it clearly spread to several floors. There were reports that staircases were blocked with fire and smoke.
Sprinklers are not required in residential buildings in Italy.
