Statistics released by CIBV in The Netherlands show that in 2012 the Dutch sprinkler market grew 5% to 393,067 installed sprinklers, a recovery from its recent low in 2011 but still 22% below its peak of 506,426 sprinklers in 2008. The market has changed, with fewer systems installed in industrial and storage buildings but more in office buildings, hotels and shops. This reflects what is being built in The Netherlands and is a trend likely to have continued in 2013. About 70% of all sprinklers installed are standard spray sprinklers and two-thirds of all systems are wet pipe. While most systems are installed according to the national standard (NEN EN 12845 + NEN 1073) that share has fallen from 80% a decade ago to 65% in 2012. About 20% of systems are installed according to NFPA standards and another 10% follow FM data sheets. Only 2% of systems were connected to the mains. In The Netherlands the water mains usually does not provide the pressure or flow needed for sprinkler systems. Almost half the new sprinkler systems installed in 2012 used an existing water supply, meaning that they were extensions. For more details see: Dutch Sprinkler Statistics 2011-2012
