Members of the European Parliament and many fire safety groups have come together to call for a European strategy on fire safety. The diffierent European bodies do not coordinate efforts to improve fire safety in Europe. While building regulations is an area of legislative competence reserved to Member States of the EU, there is much that can be done in Brussels. This campaign aims to raise the profile of fire safety and seek more and better action. As such the European Fire Sprinkler Network supports the campaign. Read more about it here.
Today we do not even know how many people die each year in fire, so we cannot accurately see the extent of the problem, nor any trends. As a first step, funding is being made available to set up a common European approach to the collection of fire statistics.
